Job Description

DOSC is launching its first academy program to help develop and grow aspiring sailing instructors into qualified RYA sailing instructors. The aim of the program is to help diversify and reach out to an untapped talent pool of keen instructors and help them advance within the sailing industry. DOSC provides instructors lots of opportunities to grow and develop themselves and their skills.

Successful candidates will initially join the academy program as Assistant Instructors and will receive comprehensive tuition and training. The timeline for this is 4 months (September through December). Besides training, the candidates will have a mixture of roles and will work alongside Dinghy/Senior Instructors.  In January 2025, DOSC will hold an RYA Dinghy Instructor Assessment and will provide a full Dinghy Instructor course. On successful completion of the dinghy instructor course the candidates will receive an employment contract at DOSC for 2 seasons.

DOSC Academy program - *sample Timeline

September – November

  • 2 days training (sailing, powerboating)
  • 3 days shadowing and working as an Assistant Instructor
  • 2 days off

December – Moderation Month

  • Continuous assessment and finalising preparation for DI course. 

January - RYA Dinghy Instructor Assessment

  • Dinghy Instructor course will be organized and held by DOSC for the candidates.
  • Duration – 1-week

January – successful completion of DI course

  • Candidates that are successful in completing the academy program will be issued a contract at DOSC to work as a RYA Dinghy Instructor for 2 seasons, comprising of salary, flights, accommodation, and other benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in delivering sailing and powerboating instruction to students.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to enhance instructional skills.
  • Shadow experienced instructors, gaining hands-on experience and learning best practices.
  • Assist in facilitating sailing programs and events organized by the Club.
  • Uphold high standards of safety, professionalism, and customer service.
  • Maintain sailing equipment and facilities as needed and assist with daily maintenance and upkeep of the sailing department and its equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Sailing experience, preferably in Opti and Laser boats.
  • A clear passion for sailing and a desire to improve and progress.
  • Minimum age of 21.
  • Minimum of 2 references.
  • Passion for traveling and sports.
  • Well-spoken, open-minded, and positive attitude.
  • Clear criminal record.
  • Ability to live abroad for extended periods.
  • Presentable appearance and high standards of personal hygiene.
