Bosun Supervisor

Job Purpose

The Bosun Supervisor supports the sailing and racing departments in the maintenance and refit of the fleet of boats for the Sailing School, the marina, the marine workshop, boat yard, and assisting with boat lifting operations.  The role is to ensure that all vessels and their equipment are always maintained in a safe and seaworthy condition.

Job Responsibilities

• Handle all clubs’ vessels maintenance programs and logs.
• Maintain that the boat yard in good order for all members and clubs’ vessels.
• Manage and maintain record of daily, weekly, and monthly checks of the vessels.
• Over-see Bosuns on day-to-day maintenance of the vessels and repair any defects.
• Assist specialist contractors brought in to work on the vessels.
• Manage the annual boat registration with DMCA of the vessels.
• Coordinate with the Chief instructors relating to safety and maintenance standards.
• Be familiar with the vessels’ layouts, facilities and stowage ensuring that everything on the boat is properly stowed at all times.
• Assist with boat lifting operations.
• Ensure good boat handling and correct safety procedures.
• Maintain good relations and communication with volunteers, especially support groups and race volunteers.
• Maintain up-to-date and accurate financial and administrative records and submit these to the Sailing department.
• Operate within the budgetary and financial guidelines set out by the Sailing & Racing department.
• Exercise proper care and control of all monies and other assets and resources in the Bosun’s care.

Qualifications/Skills

• Solid knowledge and understanding of boat maintenance.
• Solid knowledge and understanding of Sailboat racing and sail training.
• Mechanical Experience (engines, electrical)
• Two years previous experience as Bosun or related position
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
• Accurate and precise attention to detail

• Internal - Ability to work well with management and staff at all levels.
• External - Ambassador for the club always in promoting the facility, networking and relationship building in the local and international communities.
